Children's Welfare
Health
If your child has a medical condition such as asthma, epilepsy, diabetes etc. you must inform the school and discuss the medication and treatment with the Headteacher. If your child is ill and has been prescribed a course of medicine, we advise that s/he stays at home until the course is completed or alternately that the medicine is taken before and after school.
Infectious Diseases
Please inform us if your child contracts an infectious illness e.g. mumps, chickenpox, measles, impetigo, scabies etc. We may need to inform the parents of other children with medical conditions, and we can also advise you on the necessary period of absence from school.
Accidents at school
Minor accidents are dealt with by First Aiders or the Headteacher. A record is kept of all injuries. Children who have hurt themselves must always inform a member of staff and they will be given First Aid. If your children receive a bump to the head, however minor, they will be given a note informing you. In the event of a more serious injury or your children are unwell at school, you will be contacted. It is essential that the school has your daytime work/home telephone number and that of another responsible adult in case we are unable to contact you. It is vital that you give us new contact numbers if your circumstances change.
Appointments
Please inform us if your child has an appointment with the doctor, dentist or hospital during the day. Children will not be allowed to leave the school premises to attend such appointments, unless accompanied by an adult or written permission has been given to the School Office.
Medical Examinations
Children will be examined by a school doctor during their first term in Foundation 2 (Reception). You will always be informed and should be present at the examination. The school nurse visits regularly and is available for consultation, so if you would like to see her about your child please ask at the school office. The nurse will test children's vision and hearing when there are concerns. The school's dentist makes an annual inspection to see all children's teeth and you will be informed if any treatment is needed.
